Missionary Update: Greg & Laura Melendes

March 20, 2012
I wanted to check in one last time as the hours tick down toward my departure to PNG on Thursday night. This last month has flown by as we`ve wrapped up those projects that always need attention during these trips?from the actual trip logistics to the house, car, finances. Yes, by now we`ve got it down to a bit of a system, which definitely helps. Yet each step still must be repeated for each trip, so there aren`t too many short cuts! One nice prospect thoug with our very mild winter, there`s little chance the ladies will be needing to shovel much snow while I`m gone.
This trip is going to be packed, as all of them are, but it`ll have some special highlights all its own. Lord willing, Luke and Hebrews will be checked and approved for printing. We`ll do the first comprehension check of John with the team, then tape 2 Corinthians. I`ll leave most of the front draft of Matthew with Kletus and he`ll comb through it on his own and critique it before my next trip. And on one spare weekend I`ll fly to visit some dear old missionary friends and check their epistle of Ephesians.
Laura and Aubrey, in the meantime, will be making the stretch run of a journey that began many years ago in a little thatch-roofed schoolhouse?Wenim Riverview Academy. From her Pre-School through sixth grade Aubrey shared many hours with her mother in that 12?x14? building, burning through the 3 Rs and so much more. I loved seeing her golden curls bouncing in the sun as she`d run barefoot to the house for her morning snack. Some days the slowing of her gait and wandering off the trail sent signals that she wasn`t coming home for a snack, but for discipline from `Principal` Dad. Even that was amusing, or at least it is now. Well, soon she`ll be walking to receive her college degree with honors. So over the coming days teacher and student will be making final arrangements for her grad day, and days thereafter.
After allowing me a little fatherly ramble, please allow me to leave you with these request for prayer for us over the next weeks. Following also is my schedule while in PNG. And before closing we all want to thank you for your prayers and support that has made this trip possible, and Lord willing, those prayers that will make it a profitable time for the Waxe churches and translation.
Our love in Him,
Greg for the 3 of us
