Missionary Update: Greg & Laura Melendes

Dear Praying Friends,
It used to be that they figured one human year was the equivalent of seven dog years, but I`m not sure whose years have since become easier, ours or the dogs. Six years ago Aubrey dragged home a rescue mutt that has well earned the moniker Molly the Wonder Dog...we wonder how she got here, and wonder how she`s stayed around so long.
But starting tomorrow Molly won`t be the old dog learning new tricks. As she takes her daily spot doing the crime dog thing over the neighborhood, we`ll be the ones learning the twists and turns of a new computer program. Paratext has been around for a couple years, but I`ve been half too busy and half too intimidated to spend the time to learn how it works. It`s billed as an incredible tool that will help translate the many parallel passages of Matthew, our final book, and it will provide helpful checking tools as we prepare the New Testament for print. But we`ve been told to put aside an entire week to learn the program! It`s an investment I`d rather not make right now, but we?`e been assured it will be more than worth it in the long run. So please pray as we dive into the deep end of the computer world pool this week.
Our Christmas season was quiet, but quiet as it was, it`s always nice to get back to normal life. Our weather has been blessedly mild so far this winter, which offsets the gloom of our Packers not showing up in their divisional game last weekend. Fortunately, baseball season is around the corner. Aubrey has just begun her final semester at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs and looks forward to graduation in May, though that may be a mere pause along her timeline if she begins Masters studies in the fall. We`re thankful for all her hard work in school and at the foster agency, and for the joy she brings us daily.
It`s hard to believe it?s been over four months since I returned from my last PNG trip. In the next days we`ll begin praying and planning my next trip, tentatively scheduled for late March. On this trip, I plan to get Luke and Hebrews checked by a consultant and do some comprehension checking of John and perhaps 2 Corinthians if time permits. Please pray for wisdom on how to use each and every day during this precious time, and for every aspect of preparation for the trip.
Weve not received any recent news from Wenim or Meska so that`s usually a good sign. Please remember to pray for the churches and their leaders as they live their lives in the light of Christ in their very remote context. Lord willing they`ll soon have two more New Testament books to carry to church on Sunday, and to live out every day.
Thank you for your prayers throughout this past month, and for those in the important month ahead. After the Paratext dive we`ll begin the front draft of Matthew, the final 1000+ verses of the Waxe New Testament! Your support in every way has brought it thus far, and it will be integral in its completion. Thanks again.
Our love in Him,
Greg for the 3 of us!
